오늘 서울시립미술관 세마홀에서 진행된
‘2024 제4회 제주비엔날레 서울 기자간담회’에서 두 번째 출품작 영상이 공개됐습니다.
기자간담회에서 처음 공개되는 제주비엔날레 두 번째 주요 작품은
바로 태국 작가 자크라왈 닐탐롱(Jakrawal Nilthamrong)의 영상 작품인데요.
자크라왈의 ‘리좀(Rhizome 2023)’은 물로 이뤄진 시뮬레이션 세계에서
아픈 여자와 함께 뗏목에서 살아가는 남자의 이야기입니다.
영상은 균류의 마이크로 영역에서 출발해 신화적 서사(젖소)를 거쳐
대양을 떠도는 인공섬의 문명으로 관객을 인도합니다.
특히 태국 작가 자크라왈은 제44회 로테르담 국제영화제 타이거상(2015),
제22회 도쿄필름엑스 영화제 대상(2021)을 수상했으며 2014 서울미디어시티비엔날레에도 출품한 바 있습니다.
2024 제4회 제주비엔날레는 11월 26일에 개막해 내년 2월 16일까지 진행됩니다.
제주도립미술관, 제주현대미술관 문화예술 공공수장고 등 다섯 개의 공간에 펼쳐질 예정인데요.
전세계 14개국 40명(팀)이 보여주는 다양한 장르와 형식의 작품들을 만나볼 수 있으니,

At the '2024 4th Jeju Biennale Seoul Press Conference' held today at SeMA Hall, Seoul Museum of Art, the second featured artwork video was unveiled.
The second major work to be unveiled at the Jeju Biennale during the press conference is a video piece by Thai artist Jakrawal Nilthamrong. Jakrawal's work, Rhizome (2023), tells the story of a man living on a raft with a sick woman in a simulated world made of water.
The video begins in the microcosmic realm of fungi and guides the audience through a mythological narrative (a milking cow) to a civilization on an artificial island drifting across the ocean.
Notably, Thai artist Jakrawal Nilthamrong has received the Tiger Award at the 44th Rotterdam International Film Festival (2015) and the Grand Prize at the 22nd Tokyo FILMeX (2021).
He also participated in the 2014 Seoul Mediacity Biennale. The 2024 4th Jeju Biennale will open on November 26 and run until February 16 of next year.
It will be held across five venues, including the Jeju Museum of Art, Public Storage in Jeju Contemporary Art Museum.
