Flowing Moon, Embracing Land
The theme of the 3rd JEJU Biennale 2022 “Flowing Moon, Embracing
Land” derives from finding artistic practices for global symbiosis in the era
of climate crisis when new geological concepts such as the Anthropocene
and the Capitalocene are raised. Jeju, where the ecological environment of
climate and biodiversity has made history and culture, is a place of thought
and reason of the earth and the natural community. And “Flowing Moon,
Embracing Land” implies the coexistence ethics, and tolerance of a world
where everything is interconnected in nature.
“Flowing Moon” demonstrates the existence of its objects that flows ceaselessly and link entities as a concept that captures the properties of time and change.
For the Earth to coexist in the epidemic and climate crisis in an AI era with the pandemic that struck us, the Earth must be restored in
the circulation and material vitality of nature. The vitality of time and events of nature and matter is the meaning of the “Flowing Moon.”
“Embracing Land” implies the relational behavior of objects breathing in nature.
The Earth is born from matter making history and
civilization and is facing a transition to another planet. A physical stratum,
temporal space, and a historical place, “Embracing Land” materializes the
response and a horizon of matter of the countless interactions of nature that
takes place on the land.
Under these conceptual ideas, the 3rd JEJU Biennale 2022 suggests
seeing the Earth’s human, objects, mythology, history, and others as equal
objects, and to experience the excitement, communication, and coexistence
in between as a natural community.
Artwork that focuses on the moment
like when walking with your feet on the ground and taking a deep breath,
the moments in which the time of the moon and the earth responds evokes
a reflection on the coexistence of matter/immaterial and life/non-living.
