The theme of the 3rd Jeju Biennale 2022 “Flowing Moon, Embracing Land” derives from finding artistic practices for global symbiosis in the era of climate crisis when new geological concepts such as the Anthropocene and the Capitalocene are raised. Jeju, where the ecological environment of climate and biodiversity has made history and culture, is a place of thought and reason of the earth and the natural community. And “Flowing Moon, Embracing Land” implies the coexistence ethics, and tolerance of a world where everything is interconnected in nature. “Flowing Moon” demonstrates the existence of its objects that flows ceaselessly and link entities as a concept that captures the properties of time and change. For the Earth to coexist in the epidemic and climate crisis in an AI era with the pandemic that struck us, the Earth must be restored in the circulation and material vitality of nature. The vitality of time and events of nature and matter is the meaning of the “Flowing Moon.” “Embracing Land” implies the relational behavior of objects breathing in nature. The Earth is born from matter making history and civilization and is facing a transition to another planet. A physical stratum, temporal space, and a historical place, “Embracing Land” materializes the response and a horizon of matter of the countless interactions of nature that takes place on the land. Under these conceptual ideas, the 3rd Jeju Biennale 2022 suggests seeing the Earth’s human, objects, mythology, history, and others as equal objects, and to experience the excitement, communication, and coexistence in between as a natural community. Artwork that focuses on the moment like when walking with your feet on the ground and taking a deep breath, the moments in which the time of the moon and the earth responds evokes a reflection on the coexistence of matter/immaterial and life/non-living.
iconMILLMILL密密: Sun and moon, full and lean
The nature explores the ‘Mythological nature resonance’, the world placed among the many myths and tales that make up the world. Countless lives, from matter to existence, constitutes a myth as just being themselves. The law of nature that circulate ‘Sun and moon, full and lean’ is like inhalation and exhalation of God who makes the world exist. Nature’s silent and deep breath is a parent of God and myth.
iconMYEONMYEON綿綿: Sky is black and the earth is yellow
Since nature formed its existence from matter, it has shared the world of ‘Historical nature resonance’ that penetrates the human time. In the history of countless events that continues in long uphill and downhill, nature proves that ‘the sky is black and the earth is yellow’. The journey of the terrain and the vitality of the land created by time has weaved history and civilization.
iconYOOYOO幽幽: Wind becomes a lyre in the bamboo forest
Nature is a world of ‘material nature resonance’ in which numerous beings respond to one another. It pays attention in the changing moment of encounter through the eyes of material, not the human eyes. When the feet and the ground meet, the ‘Wind becomes a lyre in bamboo forest’ becomes a poetry as existing beings responds to one another. Every being that has reached this moment are reborn from living matter, creating a secluded world that interact and connect with other beings.
iconMIMI微微: Stars in the universe align and unfold
Nature is the universe. Life is a result of the natural and emergent expression of the original creativity of the universe in the mode of existence of ‘cosmic natural resonance’. ‘Stars in the universe align and unfold’ aims the coexistence in the Planetary Era of the Earth Community, where all living beings on the earth are interconnected by nature.
